Agent Provocateur is thrilled to sponsor the private New York screening of David Lynch’s Iconic masterpiece, Blue Velvet. Taking place on Tuesday 25th October at the Museum of Modern Art, the screening will be attended by some of the most notable and prominent figures in Hollywood, art, fashion, culture and business. This high-profile event celebrates the 30th anniversary theatrical re-release and digital restoration of the movie.
Set in a small American town, Blue Velvet is a dark, sensuous mystery involving the intertwining lives of four, very different individuals: Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan), the naive college student with a penchant for mysteries; Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini), the haunting cabaret singer with a dark and deadly secret; Sandy Williams (Laura Dern), the detective’s daughter who embodies the innocence in all of us; and Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper), the psychotic killer fueled by his own sexual fantasies. The film’s painful realism reminds us that we are not immune to the disturbing events which transpire in Blue Velvet’s sleepy community. There is a darker side of life waiting for us all.
Since its original theatrical release, Blue Velvet has achieved cult status, generated significant academic attention with its thematic symbolism, and is regarded as one of Lynch’s best works. Bankrolled by the great producer Dino De Laurentiis, the picture earned Lynch his second Academy Award nomination for Best Director, provided a dramatic outlet for Rossellini, beyond her work as a fashion model, and also relaunched the late Dennis Hopper’s career.
Blue Velvet is the essential precursor and inspiration for Twin Peaks, Lynch’s epic and controversial early ‘90s serial drama. The Twin Peaks revival is confirmed to air in early 2017 making this screening of Blue Velvet all the more exciting.
