Agent Provocateur Spring Summer 2016
A sentimental romp through the dusty French countryside awaits for Spring Summer 2016. Bored barn girls; fresh air, flaxen-haired farmer’s daughters frolicking in the hay – this season Agent Provocateur reels through endless summer days and rediscovers a love for the Great Outdoors.
Defined by an unbearable lightness, the SS16 collection rediscovers a lost innocence: whispers of romantic lace, sprigs of spring-fresh blooms and softly sensual satins conjure up sweet desires. As frisky as a young Emmanuelle Beart dancing naked with her goat herd in Manon des Sources; as feisty as Catherine Deneuve in Belle de Jour, the collection is tactile, sensual, and captivating – a veritable symphony of pastoral pleasures.
En Plein Air
This season’s muse has a great fondness for the open air – whether that be a rollick in the pastures or a pleasurable gust of countryside air caressing the skin through cutaway knickers. The ‘Cate’ is a key style for the season: a sensuous sigh of barely-there blush embroidery, criss-crossing over the body to create a hot-and-sweet cutaway effect. No French maiden would be able to resist the utterly naughty ‘Annika’ playsuit, a confection of filigree lace and silken chiffon straps that require its wearer to be tied up tight – and later unwrapped. The ‘Masie’ set also plays tie-up and peekaboo, thanks to a drawstring lace in rich vivid violet, and cut-outs placed just-so in the bra and knickers to highlight the quivering cleavage. Girls who like to embrace a bit of outdoor recreation will go wild for the ‘Jessa’ playsuit, an ultra-provocative bombshell bodysuit crafted of ultra-fine microfiber and silk, and dramatically cut away at the back to reveal that magnificent derriere to the open air.
The frisky fille de la campagne needs something soft and touchable to roll around in after a hard day on the farm, and this season Agent Provocateur has focused on sweet silk satins to fill that need. The ‘Lucie’ sets come in a nostalgic colour palette of lemon sorbet, coral, and foxglove. The ‘Amelea’ is a range of layering pieces in the same colours – choose a crop top with a mini slip, an abbreviated gown to throw on carelessly on top of your silky drawers, or the body-skimming slip, perfect for slinking around the house by candlelight when the day’s chores have all been completed.
Never dismiss the country maid as simple: she’s got tricks up her white cotton sleeves that many city girls wouldn’t even dream of. Her preference is for delicate and ornate black lace, and this season Agent Provocateur has focused on achieving that perfect feminine balance of feisty and voluptuous but tender and innocent. The ‘Ismeralda’ is a move-on from the popular ‘Annoushka’ range; a careless whisper of delicate eyelash lace that reveals and conceals in equal measure. The ‘Summer’ range is lighter still, only barely held together with flutters of lace bows across the cleavage. The ‘Kari’ and ‘Kendall’ ranges use black French leavers lace to its most alluring effect; looping, banding and stripping away to caress the curves with the most intoxicating of finishes.
The Great Outdoors
Secret pleasures and stolen beauty have their place, but there comes a time when the ingénue wants to step outside and unleash her glory on the world. Agent Provocateur creates the pieces for such moments, with ready-to-wear a cornerstone of each collection. This season, there’s a look for every occasion. For the all-important trip into Paris, the ‘Pennie’ – a breezy silk chiffon polka dot pantsuit with a pussybow tie bodysuit and sheer-as-you-dare pyjama pants. She’d be the picture of elegance in the ‘Lizz’ lace halter dress, cinched and cut to strike the perfect balance of ladylike and lusty. When at the stroke of midnight she wants to create the coup de foudre, she’ll choose the ‘Brandi’, the ultimate hourglass scene-stealer: crafted of whip-tight power mesh and midnight blue heavyweight duchess satin, it’s a move-on from the infamous Zelma dress and guaranteed to leave the farm hands quaking at her feet.
